  5. Mammals
What are some characterisitcs of each?

    1. A fish is any aquatic vertebrate animal that is covered with scales, and has with two sets of paired fins and some unpaired fins
    2. Amphibians such as frogs and toads, are cold-blooded animals and can live in or out of water.

Matter And Mixtures

Solids: A wall is a solid and it will hurt if you walk into it, the same with glass ect. Solids feel hard, compact.

Liquids: Liquids are flowing and flexible, soft as there are no rigid or sharp edges.

Gases: If you breathe in some types of gases it can almost feel thick. When wind hits you when you are hot it feels nice, cools you down because it is moving so fast - if it moves to fast it can hurt a little bit.

Can you trust your senses?

1. Where does the most bending of the light occur in the eye?

2. Describe how the lens works:
The lens works by moving depending on what you are trying to focus on.

3. Why do we squint when exposed to bright light?
We squint when we are exposed to bright light because our eyes are sensitive and so we squint to try to keep the light out.

4. Which parts of the eye are involved in focusing?
The parts of our eyes involved in focusing are the lens and the iris.

5. Discuss the implications of losing one eye?

The implications of losing one eye would be that your brain would get confused because it was only seeing out of one eye, when used to seeing out of 2 eyes.

Student task Two

  • Discuss: Visual impairment

  • Visual impairment is when someones sight isn't as good as it could be. For example someone might have tunnel vision which makes it look like they are looking out of a straw.

  • Do you know anyone who wears glasses or contacts? Why? How do glass or contacts help?

  • Yes, i know people who wear contacts. They wear contacts because their cornea is oddly shaped, so they wear the contacts to smooth their eye over so that they can see.

  • Are there other solutions for people with visual impairments?

  1. Some other solutions for people with visual impairment are laser eye surgery, glasses and contacts.
  2. -describe two visual impairments

Cataracts is a impairment where your vision is cloudy
  3. Macular degeneration is an impairment where there is too much pressure on your eye, and damage to the optic nerve, so there is a big 'whole' in the middle of your site, wherever you look.

-describe some possible solutions.

Some possible solutions are surgery

Student task four The cat

Cat Facts
Cat Facts

Describe which sense are developed in a special way. The cats ears are developed in a special way.

How do they work - how does the animal use them? Cats have a hearing range between 100 and 60,000 Hz. Are any of the animal's senses UNDERDEVELOPED? None of the cats senses are underdeveloped.

Student task five Design an experiment (you can type on a word doc and then print, or do it in your books) Choose a topic to investigate sound - ideas are: muffling or insultating sound - materials that are most effective distance from the source of the vibration and your ability to hear the sound your ability to hear different pitched sounds the effect of covering one ear on the accuracy of your hearing Remember - aim, hypothesis (with scientific reason), equipment, procedure, variables (independednt CHANGE, dependent MEASURE, controls KEEP THE SAME) and results table. If you finish EVERYTHING to a good standard, follow this link.
